How to find your year, make, model (and engine)

The problem

Every parts conversation starts with "what do you drive?" If you're not sure of the year or engine, the counter has to guess — and guessing is how people buy twice.

What it usually means

Year / make / model (and often engine) is the language of fitment. Same body style can hide different engines, sensors, and filters.

Where to look (Ontario-friendly)

  1. Driver door sticker (open the door — look at the B-pillar / door jamb)

- Often shows month/year of manufacture and model info

  1. Ownership / permit — year and make/model lines
  2. VIN plate — dashboard driver's side through the windshield, or door jamb
  3. Owner's manual / service book — engine codes and capacity
  4. Engine bay sticker — emissions / engine family (photo helps)

Year vs "model year"

Manufacture month can sit near a new model year. If the sticker and the ownership disagree, bring both and say so. We'll sort it with you — better than a wrong filter.

Engine — why it matters

Two "2015 Civic" or "F-150" builds can need different oil filters, brake kits, or sensors. If you only know "V6" or "four-cylinder," say that. Photos of the oil cap and air box help.

What to check before you buy

When to come to the counter

Anytime the sticker is missing, the vehicle is modified, or you're not sure. That's normal — not a failure.
